This week we are celebrating out third annual World Cultures & Languages Week - a week of activities designed to explore and celebrate nationalities, cultures and our vibrant community!

Monday

The week began with some wonderful messages from some former students who studied lanuages here.  It was amazing to hear how learning a language has enhanced thier lives in so many different ways and that they continue to be grateful for their experience at Leventhorpe.

Dr Cheng led a Chinese calligraphy workshop at lunchtime using special paper and brushes (which were kindly donated to the school by the Taiwan Embassy), meanwhile Mrs Bayford offered students the opportunity to decorate delicious French crêpes to eat.

There was a French-themed menu on offer in the canteen and a 'Hello' banner was on display in Reception to welcome staff, students and visitors to the school thoughout the week.

Tuesday

The first of our week's inter-form quizzes took place entitled 'Weird Facts About The World' which included questions such as:

  • Which country has no railway?
  • Which country has no snakes?
  • Which country has an island where only women can live?

Then, at lunchtime, the hall was packed with students giving zumba-style dancing a go with Miss West-Taylor!  It was wonderful to see so many students joining in and giving it a go...with lots of laughter throughout!

Wednesday

Our second quiz took place and this one was an idioms quiz in which students had to guess the English equivalent of sayings such as:

  • When cows dance on ice (Dutch)
  • Repetition teaches the donkey (Arabic)
  • To kill two flies with one swat (German)

And the winners of Tuesday's inter-form quiz were announced - well done to 10L!

Thursday

Day 4 began with a 'Staff Backgrounds Quiz' involving multiple-choice questions about various counties, countries, names, traditions and landmarks relating to different members of staff and their backgrounds.

Then, at lunchtime, our second dance bonanza took place in the hall with Mrs Ortega leading the salsa-style groove whilst the kitchen served a delicious Indian inspired curry!

Friday

Our cultures week culminated in the final form time quiz on accents before the big Cultural Fair in the Hall at lunchtime.

Each form had produced a display board on a different world country, researching and displaying facts and figures as well as national dress, geographical aspects and even food!  All boards were displayed in the Hall for the whole school to admire as well as our Town Mayor (and former student) Salvatore Pagdades who was invited to the event.

Display boards were judged by the Senior Leadership Team and the winners were:
