I have the joy of being Headteacher of our exceptional school. Our vision statement is underpinned by our three key values of excellence, commitment and respect.

We know the importance of education and we constantly strive to provide the best for our students.

Every young person is different and we are passionate about the growth, development and achievements of each of our students. Our purpose is to ensure that every student fulfils the best possible academic outcomes and develops the skills and qualities to ensure a successful and happy future.

We are proud of our facilities, we are proud of our staff but, most importantly, we are proud of our students.

Excellent facilities

As the school has grown, we have built new facilities to create a superb site where classrooms are equipped with the latest technology to enable high-quality learning. Our sports facilities, study areas and social spaces for students have all been redeveloped to create a vibrant and purposeful learning environment that we are all proud of.

We continue to upgrade and innovate to ensure that we have the best possible resources and facilities to help our students thrive and achieve.

By delivering excellent lessons, our staff provide our students with opportunities to broaden and deepen their understanding and develop their wider skills.

We know that excellent teachers make learning engaging and interesting; we constantly reflect and share ideas to develop our approach and ensure our students reach their full potential.

The positive culture of our school is founded on commitment from staff, students and parents. Our staff take pride in their work and staff and students share high expectations. Our students demonstrate commitment to the school, to each other and to their own learning and progress. Our parents commit to supporting the learning of their children at home and upholding the ethos and values of the school. Strong commitment makes the school a busy, vibrant, purposeful and productive place to be.

Caring about each other and appreciating individuality

Our school culture is underpinned by mutual respect between students, staff and parents. Positive relationships enable the school to function efficiently with a sense of common purpose. We encourage students to develop self-respect, to take pride in positive achievement and to take care of their own physical and mental health. Our rules are simple and are centred around showing respect to others. Respect for the school environment and facilities develops a sense of belonging.It is important that our students are proud of their Leventhorpe identity, acting as role models in school and in the local community.

An exciting curriculum

The choice of subjects in our sixth form is extensive. Students benefit from our specialist facilities and expert teaching across the full range of traditional A Level subjects as well as vocational courses in Enterprise, Creative I-Media and Sports and Exercise Science. In addition students have the opportunity to take additional qualifications in Core Maths, Finance or the Extended Project Qualification.

Students are supported to develop effective study skills that enable independent learning and positive study habits.

Achieve Challenge and opportunity

Achieving excellent academic outcomes is our core purpose. Great exam results enable our students to progress on their chosen pathway. We also recognise that the most successful people in life have strong interpersonal skills and a broad range of experiences which help them to succeed in the adult world.

Our academic curriculum is complemented by an extensive enrichment programme which includes teambuilding activities, sport, cookery, first aid, debating, charity and community projects. Our Sixth Form prefects lead our student voice and are a strong presence in all aspects of school life.

Support

All students are supported to achieve their best

We are proud of the pastoral support we provide to our students. Our Sixth Form pastoral team provides academic and pastoral mentoring, counselling services, careers guidance and futures support. Tutors and Heads of Year know students well and respond efficiently to concerns and issues. Our staff are experienced and skilled in working with young people, helping them navigate the social and emotional issues that are becoming increasingly challenging in the modern world.

We understand the importance of positive mental health for our young people and the impact this has on student development, learning and achievement. We teach our students how to recognise concerns and develop strategies to overcome issues.

Life after Leventhorpe

We are committed to providing our students with the opportunities to not only achieve their academic potential but to have the confidence and ability to embrace life beyond Sixth Form. Our excellent futures support helps each student to understand alternatives and find their best pathway into higher education or employment. We provide detailed guidance and tailored support for Russell Group and Oxbridge applicants and our established relationships with local businesses provide opportunities for students to find purposeful and relevant work experience and higher apprenticeship placements.
