First Prize for Leventhorpe at the 2022 Big Bang Science Fair!

Our Science Club students from Year 7 attended the annual Big Bang Science Fair, hosted by Herts & Essex School, this week and came away with not one but TWO prizes!

Having worked on their experiments over the last month or so, carrying out research, devising their methods and collating their results in order to reach their final conclusions, this was their opportinity to present and display their work along with other student scientists from schools in the area.

All those entering the competition had the opportunity to go and look round all of the other projects and to talk to the visiting companies at their own stands such as Harlow College, Weston Homes, STEM Learning, and Arrow.  Throughout the day, the judges for the national Big Bang Science Fair were assessing each of the KS3 projects while Herts and Essex students came in year by year, looked around the stalls for around 45 minutes before each submitting their votes.

Emily White and Kalista Veluz won "Best Communication" for their project on the effect of the volume vinegar in a rocket and were awarded a £30 Amazon Voucher

And scoring an unprecedented 50/50, which the judges stated they had never given before, Joseph Little, Harry Bailey, and Ethan Johnson's investigation into 'How different foods affect the population of ant colonies' was awarded 1st place overall in the competition!  The trio will now go on to represent Leventhorpe in the National Big Bang Science Fair in Birmingham in June!
