"Our Year 11 cohort have had to deal with so much change and uncertainty throughout their time with us.  They have demonstrated resilience and maturity in their approach and it has been wonderful to see so many students showing such joy and relief as they have opened their results.  Of course, it is great to see students securing top grades, but we have also seen so many meeting or exceeding their personal targets and securing grades above those they were expected to achieve.  Amongst these individual success stories, we have many students who have faced incredible personal challenges and mental health issues, and it has been wonderful to celebrate today with these students and their parents.  The partnerships between school and home have become ever more important as parents, teachers and support staff work together to support and assist our students.  There is no substitute for hard work and application and it has been pleasing to see so many students rewarded for their efforts.  We wish them all the very best for their next stage of education or training and we are looking forward to welcoming back so many of them as they join our sixth form."Malcolm White, Headteacher commented, GCSE Press Release August 2023

Given the uneven impact of the pandemic on school and college performance data, the government has said you should not make direct comparisons between the performance data for 1 school or college and another, or to data from previous years.

“The past few years have seen huge changes and challenges for our students and their teachers.  I have been so impressed by the resilience and determination shown by our students as they have progressed through their courses.  Today we say goodbye to so many wonderful young adults and it has been great chatting to them about their future plans.  It is fantastic to see talented young people like our Head Student Barnaby Cox going on to study History at Oxford University.  We are also seeing more and more students choosing university courses with clear links to professional pathways.  It is also pleasing to see so many students choosing alternative routes like high quality degree apprenticeships within sectors like finance, civil engineering and construction. It has been a pleasure working with such a wonderful cohort of talented young people and we wish them every success as they leave us.”
