Leventhorpe is part of Catalyst, the Bishop’s Stortford Teaching School Alliance.  Teaching School Alliances are groups of outstanding school that take a leading role in the training and professional development of teachers, support staff and headteachers, as well as contributing to the raising of standards through school-to-school support.  Leventhorpe, in collaboration with our alliance partner schools The Herts and Essex High School and The Bishops Stortford High School, lead on the teaching school “Big Six”, the six priorities identified by the National College for teaching and Learning.

The “Big Six”

  1. Play a leading role in training new entrants to the profession;
  2. Lead peer-to-peer professional and leadership development;
  3. Identify and develop leadership potential through talent management and succession planning;
  4. Provide support for other schools;
  5. Designate and broker specialist leaders of education who support other schools;
  6. Play a pivotal role in educational research and development.

Teacher Training, Talent Management and Succession Planning

In the Catalyst Alliance, Leventhorpe lead on strand 1 and 3 of the Big Six and it is our role to oversee Initial Teacher Training in the Alliance as well as managing talent and succession for employees who already work within our groups of schools.

We have strong links with universities and host placements for trainees in a wide range of subjects.  We have developed rigorous programmes to induct and train newly qualified teachers.  Staff can progress to specific programmes for recently qualified teachers and then a leadership course to prepare them to take responsibility for leading aspects of school life.  There has been a significant investment in whole staff training to improve approaches to teaching and learning as well as a focus on developing high performing teams at different levels in the organisation.  Much of this work goes on behind the scenes, and it might not be obvious to students and parents.  However, the investment in staff has developed a culture with shared vision and values where we are constantly seeking ways to improve the learning opportunities for our students.
