National Strike Action Tuesday 1st October

Published on 25 September 2013

You might be aware from the national news that some teachers will be taking industrial action on Tuesday 1st October 2013

The strike is about the proposed changes to the teacher’s pension scheme by the Government as well as pay and general working conditions more widely.  This is a national issue and not connected with the school as employers, but Leventhorpe will be affected by the strike.

Some of our teachers will be taking strike action on 1st October while others will be working normally.  Due to the number of teachers taking industrial action we are unable to cover all of the classes and therefore we will have to partially close the school.  This means that Year 10 students only will not be in school on that day.  We have tried to minimise the disruption to learning and feel that by remaining open for Years 7-9 and 11-13, the majority of students will not be too negatively impacted.  Teachers who would normally teach Year 10 students and who are not taking strike action will set home learning for those students.

I know that making alternative arrangements for your children will be difficult for some parents.  That is why we are giving as much notice as possible.

School will be as normal on Wednesday 2nd October.
